What’s the story behind the farm?
In 2008 the parks department decided to shut down a city nursery in the Rainier Beach neighborhood. Neighbors were asked to dream about what they’d like to see where the nursery once stood. Urban farm was the consensus, and the idea took root. Today the 8 acre farm property is still owned by the Parks Department and managed by Seattle Tilth and the Friends of Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands. The farm has served more than 5,000 community meals from the farm kitchen and provided more than 17,000 hours of training and classes to schoolchildren and seniors.
Where is the farm?
Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands is located between Beer Sheva Park and Pritchard Island Beach Park off 55th Ave S and S Cloverdale St.

Growing food for our family and friends in Rainier Beach

Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands is Seattle’s largest urban farm on 8 acres of public parkland in Southeast Seattle, enabling a community that struggles with food security to grow and access organic fruits and vegetables. It’s producing healthy food for the Rainier Valley while also serving as an outdoor classroom and learning center for urban agriculture and land stewardship.

But it could be so much more! Seattle Tilth, the Friends of Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands and Seattle Parks Foundation are raising funds to greatly expand the programming and facilities at the Farm. The completed project will include: an organic urban farm; a children’s learning garden; a community produce stand; a community kitchen; indoor and outdoor classrooms; community gathering space; orchards, apiaries, and chicken coops; and restored and protected wetlands. This will allow the production of 20,000 pounds of healthy food per year (a five-fold increase over today), which will primarily be distributed to the residents of the Rainier Valley.

By making a donation today you can help us complete the Campaign for Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands. Your gift of any size will bring long awaited improvements to this sustainable urban farm and education center.
